Students from Loreto High School put their questions to Jeff

Jeff Smith MP recently took part in a virtual Q&A with year 8 students at Loreto High School, organised by the Politics Project.

The Politics Project is a democratic education organisation which hosts digital surgeries for MPs to take questions from young people in their constituencies.

Jeff, who has previously taken part in digital surgeries with other schools in Manchester Withington, spent time answering pupil questions on  issues ranging from climate change to how Jeff became involved in politics and how he sees the future of Chorlton. The pupils also asked Jeff about his role as an MP and how this has changed since the Covid-19 crisis.

Jeff was also given the opportunity to ask the students what they think about how Covid-19 has impacted their education and listen to their views on how exams should be adjusted next year.

Speaking about the surgery, Jeff said:

“It’s always a pleasure to speak to the young people at Loreto High School and it was great to be able to answer questions from them virtually.

The students had lots of thoughtful questions about being an MP and the issues facing our society.

Thank you to the Politics Project for organising and for the important work they are doing in political education.”
